》Difference between Western Ghats and Eastern Ghats 《

☆ WESTERN GHATS :


→ Western Ghats are continuous Chain of hills starting from Tapti valley in the North to Kanyakumari in the South.

→ Run almost Parallel to West Coastal Plain

→ Western Ghats act as a Climatic barrier to the South - West monsoon winds.

→ Most of the rivers that rise in western Ghats drain into Arabian sea .


☆ EASTERN GHATS :

→ Eastern Ghats are discontinuous chain of hills from Mahanadi River in north and Vaigai River in the south .

→ Run parallel to the East Coastal Plain

→ Eastern Ghats lie on the rain shadow region of the South - West monsoon Winds

→ Most of the rivers that rise in Eastern Ghats drain into Bay of Bengal .

The Deccan plateau is bordered by the Eastern Ghats on its east. and the Western Ghats on its west.

Explanation:

Eastern Ghats and Western Ghats are the important India’s physiographic divisions.

Western Ghats -

1.These Ghats are  known as Sahyadri in a definite parts of India.

2.These Ghats are parallel to the western coast of India.

3.It is continuous chains of mountains which can be crossed through passes.

4.The height ranges of western Ghats are from 900-1600 meters.

5.From western Ghats most of the Peninsular rivers originate.

6.From the Western Ghats the onset of monsoon is felt.

Eastern Ghats -

1.  Eastern coastal plains of India and the eastern Ghats run parallel to each other.

2. These Ghats are cut by rivers falling into the Bay of Bengal and are not continuous.

3. Height of western Ghats ranges from 600 to 900 meter and are lower than western Ghats

4.From Eastern Ghats no major river originates.

5. The soil of these Ghats are not so fertile.

6. The monsoon in these ghats comes in October and November.
