The phenomenon of diffusion involves chemical whereas osmosis doesn’t.
More precisely osmosis can be defined as the movement of water through membranes due to pressure differences. While diffusion is the movement of chemical from the area of high free energy to the area of low free energy.
One more difference is significant: Diffusion can occur in all three phases, i.e, liquid, gas, solid; on the other hand osmosis can only occur in solvent part of solution.

OSMOSIS
1) It involves movement of solvent molecules.
2) Semi-permeable membrane is required.
3) It occurs in liquid medium.
DIFFUSION
1) It involves movement of ions, particles or molecules.
2) Concentration gradient is required.
3) It occurs in any medium.
