Maize is a wind-pollinated flower.
The female flowers (silk) are exposed, the pollens are copious so they can still be sufficient for pollination in spite of waste, the anthers are loosely held on the filaments enabling unhindered pollen dispersal.
These are the basic conditions for wind to be an agent of pollination.
An insect-pollinated flower must be able to attract insects.
This is ensured by beautiful coloration of petals, the flowers must have nectaries from which insects collect nectar for food; in some cases like in the family Fabaceae the flower is equipped with a standard petal on which insects can land when they visit.
In the Ficus family, the flowers are turned inward and a hole called an ostiole is provided to let in ants for pollination.
Nature has taken care of all the stages of reproduction to ensure the continuity of life.
