There are two types of nuclear reactions.
1. Nuclear fission- when a heavier nucleus breaks down into two lighter nuclei releasing tremendous amount of energy it is called nuclear fission.
2. Nuclear fusion- when two lighter nuclei combine to form a heavier nucleus releasing a large amount of energy the process is called nuclear fusion.
