The differences between living and non-living objects are summarized as follows:
Living things (or organisms) require nutrition, i.e., nourishment and feeding. Non-living things do not require nutrition.
Living organisms can reproduce new individuals to continue the Organism. Non-living things cannot reproduce.
Living things show the process of metabolism. Metabolism is absent in case of Non-living objects.
Living things can move bodily or show movement of parts of organs of their body in response to external stimuli. Non-living things never move on their own effort.
Living organisms respond to external stimuli. Non-living thingshave no power to respond to external stimuli.
Living things show growth which comes from within. Non-living things do not show any growth like living ones; their increase in size is always due to addition of more particles from outside.
Living organism respire, i.e., they take in Oxygen and give out Carbon-dioxide, releasing energy for work, whereas, Non-living things do not respire.
Living organisms have a definite Life Cycle, whereas, Non-Living objects have no definite Life Cycle.

Living Things:
Feeding:
All living organisms need to take substances from their environment to obtain energy, to grow and to stay healthy.
Movement:
All living organisms show movement of one kind or another. All living organisms have internal movement, which means that they have the ability of moving substances from one part of their body to another. Some living organisms show external movement as well - they can move from place to place by walking, flying or swimming.
Breathing or Respiration:
All living things exchange gases with their environment. Animals take in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide.
Excretion:
Excretion is the removal of waste from the body. If this waste was allowed to remain in the body it could be poisonous. Humans produce a liquid waste called urine. We also excrete waste when we breathe out. All living things need to remove waste from their bodies.
Growth:
When living things feed they gain energy. Some of this energy is used in growth. Living things become larger and more complicated as they grow.
Sensitivity:
Living things react to changes around them. We react to touch, light, heat, cold and sound, as do other living things.
Reproduction:
All living things produce young. Humans make babies, cats produce kittens and pigeons lay eggs. Plants also reproduce. Many make seeds which can germinate and grow into new plants.
Non-living Things:
Sand, wood,Rocks and glass are all non-living things.
Non-living things do not need food for their survival
We need to push or pull to move a non-living thing. Non-living things cannot move on their own
Non-living things do not grow and they remain the same
As non-living things do not have life, they do not breathe
Non-living things do not feel. They are not affected by any changes around them
Non-living things do no reproduce

Living things are - trees, plants, insects, human, animals, bacteria, mammals, fishes etc. Living comes from the word Live , means things who lives and can grow.
Non living things are - table, chair, pencil, sofa, bed , car, pillow etc. Non living things is the opposite of living things.

Living things
Ex:Humans,All animals,All plants,All birds, Microorganisms such as amoeba,protozoa,bacteria,fungi,algae etc…
These things/organisms show movement(they move on their own). They perform respiration,Consume food & do excretion.
Note:Plants also show movement.Their roots move around the soil to trap the water.
Some microorganisms such as virions(viruses) behave both living & non-living according to their environment.
Non living things
Ex:Plastic,Buildings
This is a very fundamental question and is indeed difficult to answer. One can attempt to characterize living things on the basis of various facts which can be nullified with counter-examples. For instance, consider fire:
It uses raw materials to burn - specifically, the chemical energy stored in it.
It can grow from a small fire to being a larger one.
It consumes air to burn the the raw material, releasing several residues in the process, just like respiration.
It can spread (in a forest, for example) which is an analogue of reproduction.
