Orthotropous ovule is the upright ovule, in which micropyle, chalaza and funicle lie in one line. The embryo sac is straight. It is the simplest and most primitive type of ovule. It is seen in the members of family Polygonaceae and Piperaceae.
An anatropous ovule is an inverted ovule, in which the body of the ovule is bent at right angle. So that the micropyle and chalaza lie side by side. The micropyle , chalaza and funicle are not in a straight line. It an advanced type of ovule and is seen in families Asteraceae and chenopodiaceae.
