Osmotic pressure : Pressure applied by a solution to prevent the inward flow of water across a semi- permeable membrane.

WHILE

Osmotic potential : The potential of water molecules to move from a hypotonic solution to a hypertonic solution across a semi- permeable membrane =. van't Hoff factor of the solute

1.Osmotic Pressure can be defined as the actual pressure developed in a solution and separated from the pure water by means of semi permeable membrane. Osmotic Potential can be defined as the decrease in potential of pure water due to the presence of particles in it.

2.Osmotic Pressure is developed in a confirmed system whereas Osmotic Potential is in a confirmed as well as open system.

3.The value is positive in Osmotic Pressure and is negative in potential.
