Difference between parasite and saprophyte.

Parasite

  • An organism that lives in or on another living organism and benefits from its nutrients.

  • The example of parasite are:-Fleas, hookworms, tapeworms and barnchles etc.

  • These organisms obtain their nutrition from other living organisms.

  • It harms the source it feeds on by creating infection.

  • These are eukaryotic organisms.

  • They have intracellular mode of digestion.

Saprophyte

  • It is a plant or fungus or even a microorganisms that lives on decaying matter or dead matter.

  • The example of saprophyte are fungi and bacteria etc.

  • These feed on dead or decaying matter.

  • It does not harm the source it feeds on as it is already dead.

  • In these some are eukaryotic whereas other are prokaryotic.

  • They have extra cellular mode of digestion.
