Public interest litigation (PIL) is a significent step in ensuring justice:

a. The introduction of Public Interest Litigation has also allowed poor, marginalised group to get justice.

b. Under Public Interest Litigation (PIL), any citizen or group of citizens can approach the Supreme Court or a High Court for the protection of public interest against a particular law or action.

c. PIL was started to protect the fundamental rights of people who are poor, ignorant or in socially/economically disadvantaged position. It is different from ordinary litigation, in that it is not filed by one private person against another for the enforcement of a personal right.

d. The first reported case of PIL in 1979 focused on the inhuman conditions of prisons and under trial prisoners.

Judicial review, on the other hand is the "review of actions of legislative and executive by judiciary" .The courts has the power to annul the acts of the state when it finds them incompatible with the written constitution.

The Right to Constitutional Remedies connects to the idea of judicial review in its capacity of protecting the rights of an individual against the working of the State legislature or executive. The Right to Constitutional Remedies allows citizens to move the court if they think that any of their Fundamental Rights are being violated by the State administration. Judicial review implies invalidation of legislative or executive action if it is seen to violate Fundamental Rights. Hence, the Right to Constitutional Remedies and judicial review are inter-connected because the latter is practiced when a Fundamental Right is violated by the State. In this case, a higher court can repeal the judgments of a lower court based on its own investigation.
