Differentiate between sexual and asexual reproduction in plants.

Asexual reproduction:-

  • It occurs in lower invertebrates and lower chordates and plants with simple organisations
  • It is always uni-parental.
  • No fertilization.
  • Offspring is normally similar to the parent.
  • No gametes are formed.

Sexual reproduction:-

  • It occurs in all types of animals and mostly higher in plants.
  • It is usually bi-parental.
  • Fertilization takes place.
  • Offspring shows the variation with respect to the parent.
  • Gametes are always formed.

SEXUAL REPRODUCTION

  • l Characteristics of both parents are inherited

  • It requires the formation of gametes

  • Special organs for reproduction are required

  • Examples – Mangoes, coconut, Hibiscus etc

ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION

  • One parent is involved

  • lCharacteristics of only one parent are inherited

  • Examples – Potato, Jasmine, Rose, Yeast, Bryophyllum etc
