Differentiate between simple diffusion and active transport

Active transport requires energy in the form of ATP because the movement of ions or molecules is against the concentration gradient ie low concentration to higher concentration. 

Diffusion is passive transport because it does not require energy since movement of molecules is along the concetration gradient. ie high concentration to lower concentration.
