There are some basic differences in the stele of the dicot and the monocot root. The 'stele is the central part of the root'.
Stele of dicot:
- Dicot root
- The 'xylem and phloem' are very limited or continuous in number.
- The pith is not present in the 'dicot root'.
- The secondary growth is present in the dicot root.
- In this root the pericycle forms the 'cork cambium, lateral roots' and the 'part of the vascular cambium'.
Monocot root:
- Monocot root
- Here xylem and phloem are 'numerous in number'.
- Pith is present and it is large in number and well developed.
- 'Secondary growth is absent' in it.
- In this roots the pericycle forms only the lateral roots only.
