the top number is the maximum pressure your heart exerts while beating ( systolic pressure ) and the bottom number is the amount of pressure in your arteries between beats (diastolic pressure) the numeric difference between your systolic and diastolic blood pressure is called your pulse pressure

Differences of systolic and the diastolic pressures are :

Systolic pressure

1. It is generated when the muscles of our heart gets contracted or when there occurs high pressure of blood.

2. Stage of systole occurs when left ventricle is contracted.

3. Here, vessels of blood are in contracted state.

Diastolic pressure

1. When the pressure of blood is minimum, then it is generated.

2. Stage of diastole takes place when left ventricle is relaxed.

3. Here, the vessels of blood are in relaxed state.

For an adult, the systolic pressure is 90 to 120 mm Hg and diastolic pressure is 60 to 80 mm Hg
