<b>Insect pollinated flowers has features that allow insects, birds, or other animals to pollinate them when they feed on the nectar. The pollen grains will stick onto the outer covering of the insect and when the insect brushes pass the stigma of the same flower or another flower, the pollen grains will stick onto the stigma of the flower and pollinate the flower. the pollen grain will then grow a pollen tube down the style to reach the ovary which contains the ovules, and when the two sex cells fuse, fertilisation will take place and the ovule will develop into a seed and the ovary a fruit.
&lt;b&gt;<br />To maximise the chance of fertilisation taking place, insect pollinated flowers usually have:
&lt;b&gt;<br />Large, scented and brightly coloured petals to attract pollinatorsFilaments and anthers inside the flowerStigma(s) inside the flowerLarge and sticky/spiky pollen grainsSmall and sticky stigmaNectar for pollinators to feed on
&lt;b&gt;<br />Examples of such flowers are rose, hibiscus, sunflowers, etc.
&lt;b&gt;<br />Animal pollination is more precise and the chance of cross pollination is less since the animals mostly visit the same kind of flower. Many of the pollinator-pollen pairs have coevolved together, meaning the plant has adapted to attract the pollinator and the pollinator has adapted to better locate or utilize the plant. This also increases reliability/efficiency because the pollinator can be expected to return to the plant if it benefits in some way (food, protection, etc.)
