1.Usually the optical mice use a red LED or in some cases blue LED as a light source. But the laser mouse use a infrared laser beam as light source.
2. The Laser Mouse Offers More Buttons
3.The most appreciable contribution of the optical mouse is to work perfectly on almost all surfaces. But the basic working principle of optical mice is hampered by reflective or glossy surfaces. Few models of optical mouse are hence to be used only along with a mouse pad.

One of the most important and easiest difference between an optical and a laser mouse is that of illumination source.

An optical mouse uses LED light as a source of illumination whereas laser mouse use laser as a source illumination.

Laser mouse are more technologically advanced and are preferred by people as they also have a higher DPI, which means they can track more points per inch thus making them more sensitive.
