The biggest difference between photosynthesis and respiration is that photosynthesis only occurs in plants and some bacteria while respiration occurs in all living organisms. ... Respiration is Glucose and Oxygen that, through the process of respiration, yield Carbon Dioxide and Water.

Photosynthesis is the process by which plants produce their food. They use carbon dioxide and water, along with energy from the sunlight, to produce carbohydrates/glucose.

Formula:

carbon dioxide +water -------> glucose + oxygen

RESPIRATION :

During respiration, glucose is oxidised (reacted with oxygen) and energy is released in the form of ATP. The glucose is broken down completely into C02 and water.

FORMULA

glucose + oxygen ———-> carbon dioxide + water + energy(ATP)

Both reactions use similar products - CO2, water, oxygen and glucose. Photosynthesis is almost the opposite of respiration, however the former requires sunlight energy, whereas the latter doesn’t.

DIFFERENCES :

Photosynthesis takes place in chloroplast, where as respiration takes place in mitochondria.

→Photosynthesis involve production of carbohydrate and respiration involve breaking of carbohydrate.

→ Photosynthesis occur only during presence of sunlight where as respiration occurs all the time.

→ In photosynthesis process Oxygen is released where as in respiration Oxygen is utilised.

These are the main differences between Photosynthesis and respiration.
