y = sin(1/x)

differenciate wrt x

dy/dx =cos(1/x) d(1/x)/dx

= -cos(1/x).1/x^2

kvnmurty: it is useful to learn LaText equation editor for such questions.. the answer will be clearer... this editor is available when you answer a question... There is a round button labeled PIE symbol... inside the green border around answering box.

Apply the chain rule for differentiation.

\frac{d}{dx}\ Sin(\frac{1}{x})=Cos(\frac{1}{x})*\frac{d}{dx}(\frac{1}{x})\\\\=-\frac{1}{x^2}\ Cos(\frac{1}{x})
