What is a Change ?

➙ The changes which take place around us in form of Shape , size, position, colour , temperature, state etc.

  • These changes are divided into two types : Physical changes and Chemical changes.

What is a Physical change ?

➙ The type of change in which only physical properties of any substance changes but no new substances are formed is called as physical change.

[ Characteristics of physical change ]

  • Only the physical properties of the substance will change.

  • No new substance will form.

  • Nature of substance will remain same during the change & also after the change.

  • It is a temporary change.

[ Some examples ]

  • Glowing of an electric bulb , Magnetisation of iron piece, cutting a piece of paper etc.

What is a Chemical Change ?

➙ A change in which one or more new substances are formed is know as chemical change.

[ Characteristics of chemical change ]

  • New substance with different properties will form.

  • It cannot be reversed by simple methods so we can call it as a permanent change.

  • A large amount of heat is absorbed or evolved during the change.

[ Some examples ]

  • Rusting of iron , Burning of candle , photosynthesis, formation of curd etc.
