Answer:

Scientists use the word entropy to describe the amount of freedom or randomness in a system. In other words, entropy is a measure of the amount of disorder or chaos in a system. ... Entropy is thus a measure of the random activity in a system, whereas enthalpy is a measure of the overall amount of energy in the system

Enthalpy :-

Enthalpy (∆H) refers to the total heat content of the system. It refers to the total kinetic energy of the system.

Now, we know that all processes have the tendency for minimum energy. So the system will tend to lose energy i.e., have minimum enthalpy. So, exothermic reactions are favored over endothermic reactions. => Negative ∆H is favored.

Entropy :-

Entropy(∆S) measures the disorderliness or, randomness within the molecules of the system. All systems have the tendency for maximum randomness.

There are several processes that are spontaneous but enthalpy change is 0. This shows that enthalpy here, is not the driving force. What is responsible for spontaneity here, is entropy.

Entropy (or randomness) of gas > liquid > solid.
