Explanation:

They are both types of vascular tissue in plants (like arteries and veins in us). Phloem moves food (sugar rich sap, in most cases) down the plant from the leaves to the roots, and xylem moves water from the roots up to the rest of the plant tissue. They are structurally different too, and it can get more complicated then that but that's what your textbook is for.
