According to Graham Law ;
rate of diffusion of non -reacting gases at constant temperature and pressure inversely proportional to square root of their densities .
e.g
rate of diffusion proportional to 1/√d
where d is density of gas .
we know,
d = PM/RT
where M is molecular mass of gas
if T and P are constant then,
d directly proportional to M
so,
rate of diffusion proportional to 1/√M

example :- two gases H2 and CH4 contain in separate container. now , join both container by a small hole , then
rate of diffusion of H2> rate of diffusion of CH4 .
due to molecular mass of CH4> molecular mass of H2

Rate of diffusion is inversely proportional to the square root of density.

We know that,

M=dRT/p

such that molar mass is directly proportional to the density.

so that rate of the diffusion is inversely proportional to the square root of the molar mass.

Eg.rate of diffusion of hydrogen gas > rate of oxygen gas due to molar mass of oxygen gas > molar mass of hydrogen gas.
