some modals with their meaning with examples are given below :

Meaning

  1. ability/capacity
  2. informal request
  3. possibility
  4. impossibility

Example

  1. He can drive a car at this age .
  2. can you hold this a while ?
  3. This can be one solution.
  4. you can't say such thing .

  1. polite request
  2. past ability
  3. present impossible

Example
