When we eat, saliva mixes with the food. Saliva has ptyalin which digests the complex starch into simpler maltose and dextrin. Our smell, and saliva initiates the process of digestion. As the food bolus moves down the oesophagus and enter the stomach, the sphincter closes.
Food remains in the stomach for 4 hours. In this time, stomavh starts churning, horizontally, vertically and diagonally and mixes the food with the digestive juice containing HCL, abd creates an acidic environment, for digestive enzymes to work upon. Now the digestive enzymes are released, each of them have specific functions, they act on a particular type of food abd break them down to simpler digestable and absorable substances
