DIRECT AND INDIRECT SPEECH

Guidelines:
Quotation marks are omitted.
At times ‘that’ is used.
Two conjunctions cannot be put together.
Changes in the tense of verb of direct speech:
If reported verb is in present or future tense, the tense is not changed.

Rules for changing from direct speech to Indirect speech:-

  • The inverted commas are omitted in the indirect speech.

  • The capital letter with inverted commas will not remain capital in indirect speech.

  • The tense of the Verb will be changed while changing the speech.

  • The pronoun should be changed according to thr sense of speech.

  • Indirect speech witnesses a change in the tense.

  • All the tenses of thr direct speech are converted into the past tense but if the sentence is already Is in past tense it turns to past perfect tense.
