Direct Variation

A 23 m 75 cm high water tank casts a shadow 20 m long. Find at the same time:

1) The length of the shadow cast by a 9 m 50 cm high.

2) The length of the tree if the length cast by a tree 9 m 50 cm high.

Plzzz tell step by step...

9.2 m

Step-by-step explanation:

Height of tank = 23 m 75 cm =

23+\frac{75}{100}=23.75 m

Length of shadow of tank = 29 m

Height of tree = 9 m 50 cm =

9+\frac{50}{100}=9.5 m

Let the length of shadow of tree be x

So, ATQ

\frac{23.75}{29}=\frac{9.5}{x}

x=\frac{9.5 \times 23}{23.75}

Hence the length of shadow of tree is 9.2 m

Answer:

formula of direct variation is k=x/y

therefore, 23m 75cm can be written as 2375 cm

(1 m = 100cm )

and 9m 50cm can be written as 950 cm

now as we know that the formula of direct variation is k=x/y

therefore

2375/950=200/x

2375x= 200×950

x=19000/2375

therefore, x=8

that means the shadow of the (something) of hight 9m 50cm will be 8 m
