Direction (Q Nos.6-10): Read the passage given below: The chart below gives information about the amount of carbon emissions in different countries during three different years. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where vant Carbom 1.800.000 1.800.OOD 1.300.000 3.200.00 1.ONTO 17 2200 29 The bar chart compares the emission of carbon dioxide into atmosphere of six counties, including two of them coming from emerging nations, for three decades starting from 1975 until 2005. USA, being the number one polluter of all, emitted 1,200,000 thousand metric tonnes in 1975 and this count increased to 1,300.000 and 1,600,000 thousand metric tonnes in 1990 and 2005 respectively. In contrast, the carbon emission of China was nearly 300,000 thousand metric tonnes in 1975 and it rose by 100% in 1990 and surged dramatically to just below 1,6000,000 thousand metric tonnes in 2005. In terms of the percentage increase, China was the largest contributor in carbon emissions of all. The figure for Germany and the United Kingdom remained relatively stable throughout the period of time, and so were for Canada until 1990. The carbon dioxide emissions in India increased exponentially from around 100.000 in 1975 to just below 400,000 thousand metric tonnes in 2005. On the basis of your understanding of the passage, answer the questions given below:

The Editor,

The Telegraph,

Kolkata - 70001.

Sir,

I would like to request you to allow me a little space on the page of your highly, esteemed daily so that I may draw the attention of the due authorities to the problem stated below.

I am an inhabitant of Gandhinagar. It is a thickly populated, locality inhabited mainly by working-class people. Now the entire area has become a hell on earth. Basically People use wood, lpg, coal, for cooking, making bricks and so on and they produce many gases like carbon dioxide, CO, etc.

The garbage is not removed regularly and drains are lying chocked here and there. Consequently bad smell is always coming out from them. No word is sufficient to describe the horrible atmosphere here. We fear that infectious diseases may at any time break out here. We repeatedly requested to the local civic authorities to redress our sufferings but to no effect.

We as such think that the higher authorities will realise the gravity of the situation and take necessary steps to offer us a cleaner surroundings to live in.

Thanking you,

Dated Gandhinagar, Yours respectfully,

P.O. Bagnaan, Barin Kar

Dt. Howrah,

The 25th January, 2022
