Directions (13-14):P is 9 m to the south of
K. K is 5 m to the east of H. H is 4 m to the
north of B. L is 3 m west of B. D is 7 m
south of L. G is 8 m east of D.
If point Z is 5 m to the west of point P,
then what is the distance between Band
Z?

Given the directions of different points, find the distance between the given two points.

Explanation:

  • Let the co- ordinates of each be considered to that of in XY- plane with point P at the origin P(0,0).
  • Then for each movement in the west and east direction the x co- ordinate decreases and increases by one respectively.
  • Then for each movement in the south and north direction the y co- ordinate decreases and increases by one respectively.
  • hence we have P(0,0) now it's said that:
  • P is 9\ m to the south of K -> K(9,0)
  • K is 5\ m to the east of H-> H(-5, 9)
  • H is 4\ m to the north of B -> B(-5,5)
  • L is 3\ m west of B ->L(-8, 5)
  • D is 7\ m south of L-> D(-8, -2)
  • G is 8\ m east of D->G(0,-2)
  • Z is 5\ m to the west of point P -> Z(-5,0)
  • now the distance between B(-5,5) and Z(-5,0)  is ,                                      d=\sqrt{(-5-(-5))^2+(5-0)^2} \\d=5\ m ---->ANSWER
