Given:

60 x 3 =

(14 – 6) + (3 – 1) x 24=

11 + 3 x [4 + (9 – 8) – 2]=

To Find: To solve the equations using PMDAS and GMDAS rules.

Solution:

PEMDAS and GEMDAS are two math orders of operations.

The abbreviation PEMDAS assists you in remembering the sequence of events while solving math problems. The abbreviation PEMDAS is formed by the initials of each word's letter in a sentence. Working from  left to the right, solve arithmetic questions using the normal mathematical sequence of operations:

Brackets, Parentheses, and grouping - identify and answer working from left to right in the equation, put expressions in parenthesis first; if you put parentheses, work from the inner to the outer.

Roots and Exponents  - compute all exponential and root expressions in the equation from left to the right.

Next, answer both multiplication AND division expressions as they appear in the equation, working left to right in the equation.

Subtraction and Addition - Solve both subtraction and addition and subtraction expressions as they appear in the problem, going from left to right.

(i) 60 X 3 = 180

(ii) (14 - 6) + (3 - 1) x 24

   = 8 + (3 - 1) x 24

    = 8 + (3 - 1) x 24

   =  8 + 2 X 24

     = 8 + 48

     = 56

(iii) 11 + 3 x [ 4 + (9 - 8)-2]

    = 11 + 3 x [ 4 + (1) - 2)]

    = 11 + 3 x [5 - 2]

    =  11 + 3 x [5-2]

     = 11 + 3 x 3

    =  11 + 3 x 3

      = 11 + 9

      = 20
