Discourtesy is not a legal offence, and it does not excuse assault and battery. Give its reasons.

Discourteousness is acting in an unkind or unfriendly way toward coworkers, friends, or relatives. It also refers to misbehaving or acting in an insulting or impolite manner toward someone else on behalf of oneself. It does not constitute breaking the law and is not a crime that is subject to punishment.

Since there are so many people who offend and disrespect others without ever saying sorry, please, or thank you, making discourtesy a crime would result in a deluge of police reports.

Some people have a tendency to treat others badly and speak disparagingly of them.

If this is a crime, many people will be prosecuted and sentenced to prison because they like hurting other people.
