Answer :-

First of all, what are Enzymes ?

Ans - In general terms, "Enzymes" can be defined as the largest and the most specialized class of protein based molecules.

Some important properties of enzymes are as follows :-

  • Enzymes remain unaltered upto the end of chemical reactions. So, they can be used again and again in Chemical reactions.

  • Enzymes accelerate chemical reactions, but are not consumed or changed during the course of reaction.

  • Enzymes get activated in small quantities in Chemical reactions.

  • An enzyme holds the capability to only alter the rate of reaction, not the direction of equilibrium.

  • Majority of the enzymes are highly specific i.e. an enzyme will catalyse only one particular chemical reaction.

  • A number of enzymes are required to be used in sequence to convert one substance into several other substances via a "Metabolic Pathway".

  • At high temperature levels (above 60°C), most of the enzymes sport a high chance of getting destroyed or denatured rapidly.
