Answer:
The Planet Earth has innumerable variety of valuable natural resources. Air, Land, Soil, Water, Forests and wild life are to mention a few. There are two major and vital natural resources to be understood in economic geography, because of their role in supporting many of our human activities. They are the minerals and mineral fuels. Like land and water, minerals are valuable natural treasures of the earth. There is no urbanization or industrialization without the use of mineral resources. The growth of a country’s economy and its source of income are mainly depending up on the available natural resources. Some of the natural resources are renewable and many of them are practically lost once they are used. The non-renewable resources are to be conserved and preserved for our own use and for the survival of our future generation. Minerals and energy resources fully support the industrial development and help to grow the national economy. Many of these resources are not uniformly distributed. They vary in distribution with ref to horizontal space and vertical depth. Their quantitative occurrence and qualitative distribution are also highly variable. Economic geography of mineral resources is primarily concerned with three major aspects to be studied. 1. Classification of mineral resources, 2. Their geographic distribution and 3. The conservation of mineral resources. Minerals are classified into metallic, minerals, nonmetallic minerals and mineral fuels as major categories. Hence, in this report, the following aspects are explained: 1. Ferrous metals and Ferro-alloys 2. Non-ferrous Metals 3. Precious Metals and Other minerals 4. Gemstones & building stones 5. Mineral Fuels.
