Mechanism of opening and closing of stomata.
1. Opening of stomata:- Solutes from neighbouring epidermal and mesophyll cells entered the guard cells lowering its osmotic potential and water potential. This lowered water potential and osmotic potential allows the movement of water in guard cells from neighbouring cells. Guard cells become targid due to water accumulation in them which results in opening of the guard cell.
2. Closing of stomata:- is the stomata open in the solute concentration is reduced. This makes the water from the guard cells to move away in to neighbouring cells, now guard cells become flaccid without water. They collapse with each other and resulting in closing of stomata.
