The first city to be discovered by excavation digging up was harappa and therefore this civilization is also known as harappan civilization.

• Indus valley civilisation thrived along the Ghaggar-Hakra river and Indus river in the region of Pakistan and Northwest India. It is also known as Indus valley civilisation.  

• Its bricks were used to construct the railway line between Karachi and Lahore.

• Its ruins were first described by Charles Masson but its significance was realised later.  

• Harappan Seals were discovered in 1912 by J Fleet which triggered the excavation under Sir John Marshall in 1921. This excavation led to the discovery of Harappan civilisation by Dayaram Sahni.
