The Mongols were very brave, fearless and cruel tribes from Central Asia. They invaded India during the rule of the Sultans. They invaded India many times from 1221 to 1327. They occupied some parts of Pakistan and Punjab for many years. Changiz Khan was their leader who led the invasions into India. He defeated the King of Khuarzim near the Indus river.
The Mongols invaded India whenever there was a weak King in Delhi. In 1241 they destroyed the city of Lahore. They invaded Sindh in 1245 and beseeched the fort of Uch under their leader Mangu, the grandson of Changiz Khan. They were defeated by the troops under the command of Balban.
The Mongols invaded India again in 1257 AD during the reign of Nasir-ud-din. They were led by Nuyin Sari. Balban was the Prime Minister at that time. He was sent to check their advance. He filled the forts with armed soldiers and checked the invasion of the Mongols. Halaku the grandson of Changiz Khan sent a representative to the Sultan's court. This was a gesture of friendship. So no invasion occurred during his reign.
The Mongols invaded India in 1279 and 1285 when Balban had become the Sultan. He made an extensive plan and adopted a systematic frontier policy to check their invasions.
