Constitutionalism is the fundamental laws, rules, customs and conventions, stipulating how a country is governed. It may put limits on the activities of individuals and the government as well.

Constitutionalism tries to ensure that a government stays within its limits given by the constitution of a country.
It tries to nullify or remove those laws or articles which are against the purpose of constitution.
It refers to a set of guidelines for declaring people’s rights, liberties and duties for the country.
Historical declarations such as U.S bill of rights and Magna Carta have shown that constitutionalism can control the negative use of powers by a government.
