The state list consists of 66 subjects or state importance on which the state government can make laws .

These subjects include police the local government trade and Commerce etc.

Union list consists of 97 subjects on which the central government or the Parliament can make law .

The subjects in this list include subjects of national importance like defence , nuclear power, Foreign Affairs, etc.
