Premchand novel reflected the actual conditions of the Indian society in a number of ways:

1.His novels were filled with all kinds of characters drawn from different levels of the society. We can find aristocrats, landlords, middle class peasants, landless labourers, middle class professionals and people from the marginal classes.

2. The central characters in his novels were usually miserable and exploited peasants. He sought to represent the true picture of the peasantry class. His novels emphasised on democratic values.

3. Women characters was generally very strong individuals, especially those belonging to the lower classes.

4. His novels show that landlords, money lenders, priest and colonial bureaucrats all those who held power in the society form the web of oppression.
