==> The nature of democracy is that elected officials are accountable to the people, and they must return to the voters at prescribed intervals to seek their mandate to continue in office. For that reason most democratic constitutions provide that elections are held at fixed regular intervals.

The merits of democracy are -

1. a democratic government is better form of government because it is more accountable form of government.
2. democracy improves the quality of decision making.
3. democracy enhances the dignity of citizens.
4. poor and least educated has the same status as the rich and educated.

● Demerits of election in democracy

1. There are high chances of manipulation of the voiting machines if not taken care of properly.
2. The expense of conducting an election is too high.
3. The gullible voters can easily be bribed.
4. Many a times voting booths are corrupted.
