Assumed mean is the assumption of the mean.
It is not necessarily equal to the true mean or even close to eat.
The assumed mean is used to calculate the true mean and also the standard deviation.
The reason as to why assumed mean is preferred over the arithmetic mean is because :
Assumed mean normally takes smaller values.
It implies then that it accommodate a variety of values.
