Some of the challenges that country faces are:
a. Communal violnce - It is true that ideals and ideas from religion play an important role in Politics. Today religion as a social factor is exploited by the politicians for electoral gains, who uses religious symbols, values to incite the masses against a particular religious community.
b. Caste- As a social factor has a considerable influence in our democracy and is a major challenge that India faces, We have seen rise of many caste based groups, parties demanding reservation, more representation. Caste system is well entrenched in Indian society.
c. Regional imbalance could certainly be regarded as one of the major challenges that Indian democracy is confronted with.India witnesses Regional disparities, where we see some regions are developed, some are considered to be underdeveloped.Reasons for such disparities can be attributed to the historical factors, geo political conditions of the region, political history etc.
It is in this context, We have seen rise of regional aspirations whereby regions have demanded more funds from the centre, increased autonomy, more financial autonomy, even demand for a separate state. We may give example of Telengana.
d. Apart from the above issues, issues like poverty, socio economic inequalities, illiteracy, unemployment acts as a major hindrance and have a negative influence on our democracy and are considered to be inimical to progress and development.
e. Growing use of muscle and money power by political parties , also raises , increased political violence serious misgivings about the democratic status of our country
f. Rampant corruption, red tapism, delays in the public process acts as a major hindrance.
