Explanation:
The Indian Constitution is the longest constitution in the
world. It had 395 articles, 22 parts and 8 schedules at the time of
commencement.
The difficulties faced by the framers of our Constitution
were:
1. India was a huge and diverse country. It was not an easy
task to frame a Constitution keeping in mind the needs of all the various
regions and groups.
2. The Indian people had lived as subjects till then. They
were now coming up to the status of citizens.
3. There was a lot of disturbance due to the partition of
the country on the basis of religion. India and Pakistan were separated.
4. There were a number of princely states. Integration of
states was a difficult task.
5. It was a long process. Earlier there were 389 members in
the Constituent Assembly which was set up to frame the Constitution. Later the
number was reduced to 299 after the withdrawal of the Muslim League members. 13
committees were set up to prepare the draft of the Constitution. This was
discussed in detail by the people, press, provincial assemblies and the
Constituent Assembly. It took 2 years, 11 months and 18 days to frame the
Constitution.
