Discuss the effects of the population explotion in the future of the Earth
Answers
1. Effect on Economic Life:
The population in India is increasing at an alarming rate, as a result of which India still remains a poor country. Hence many people live here in a wretched condition. They are deprived of the basic necessities of life and their standard of living is the lowest one.
Despite the green revolution in the country, and enormous increase in the production of food-grains, we are still in the grip of food problem. Malthus theory of population operates here; food is growing at slow arithmetic progression and population is increasing in fast geometric progression in this country.
According to Brubecher, real democracy is possible when a minimum standard of living-food, shelter and clothing is granted to all people.
In India people are unemployed, poor and starved. The common man is crushed under the heavy weight of high prices. The vicious circle of poverty goes on; it has no end, it is a continuous process.
Vicious Circle of Poverty
Over population is unable to solve this vicious circle of poverty, as a result of which people are becoming more frustrated, diseased and disgusted.
2. Effect on Health:
Over population has affected the health of the people adversely. There is not enough nutritive food for everybody. Millions of people are below poverty line. They have lost their vigour and efficiency to work. In a big family with low income, the condition of woman is pitiable.
From morning till night she has no rest; as a result of which she loses both her physical and mental vigour. Children too suffer on account of increasing population. In big families, where the income is not very high, they cannot get good food, good medical facilities and good care from the parents.
3. Effect on Human Values:
Decline of human values is the result of over-population. Population explosion has led to lawlessness, corruption, violence and crimes. In every field of life there is friction, restlessness and dissatisfaction. There is a great rush in buses, trains, schools, colleges, hospitals and markets as a result of which many people have neither sound physical health nor sound mental health.
They are suffering from nervous breakdown due to anxiety, tension and stress.
This over population has led these people to degraded existence. They are deprived of dignity, prestige, freedom and self-respect. They neither get proper food nor education, which creates a terrible feeling of purposelessness, boredom and meaninglessness in their lives. This de-humanization of personality is the result of over-population. It leads to mutual repulsion, hatred, distrust and so on among these people.
4. Effect on Environment:
The uncontrolled rapid growth of our population has posed a great danger to the environment, both physical and social. It has disturbed the ecological harmony, e.g. forests have been cleared for human habitation, agriculture farms and factories. This has affected the rainfall and the general climate. Over population has ruined the beauty of nature.
It has destroyed the flora and fauna in different places. Residential quarters and factories have been built where once beautiful gardens with flowers bloomed. If we do not check this growing population, a day will come when this planet earth will not remain a healthy place to live in.
It is, therefore, the need of the hour to inculcate population consciousness among the masses, which can be achieved only through proper education. It is needless to say that education is a mighty weapon to transform the attitudes, values and ideas of people.
In order to accelerate the tempo of development, and keep pace with other developing countries in respect of science and technological advancement, there is need to have consciousness among masses about the dynamics of population, its trends and its impact on the national development.
