Answer:  In the early seventeenth century, the English east India company was just a trading company. the rich province of Bengal attracted it to establish a place there. The conflicts between  the nawabs of Bengal and the company intensified in the first half of the eighteenth century. Bengal was ruled at that time by Alivardi Khan .He gave the company warnings not to extend its limits. But after the military successes against the French (Carnatic Wars) the British had become very strong. It decided to annex territories and to expand its rule. When Siraj-ud-daulah became king he decided to remove the companies trade in Bengal but the company didn't want to do it which ended up in war (Battle of Plassey). In the Battle of Plassey the British became a political power in India ruling Bengal indirectly. They appointed people to rule on their behalf. But when Mir Qasim opposed them it started a war (Battle of Buxar) The British won both the battles hence becoming the real ruler of Bengal....

Hope this helped you :)
