The early 1930s was a time of uncertainty and turmoil in Germany. The country was humiliated by its defeat in World War I and struggling economically.
Germany was eager to find a way out of its problems and back to the glory of its past. Adolf Hitler, a former army corporal, and his National Socialist Party (Nazi Party) promised that and more. His book Mein Kampf (“My Struggle”) outlined his beliefs that Aryan Germans (non-Jewish Caucasians usually having Nordic features) were superior to other people, especially Slavic, Black and Jewish people.
In 1930, Hitler denounced Germany’s politicians for causing the country’s defeat in World War I. He blamed Germany’s economic problems
on Jewish financiers and promised to return Germany to its former glory.
In 1932, the Nazis won the national election, and by January 1933, Hitler had become chancellor and head of the government. When the Reichstag, the German parliament, burned (probably the work of Nazis), Hitler used the opportunity to arrest his opponents and seize unlimited power.
