Geographical features of our country fosters unity and homogeneity in the following manner:
a. India's shape and size has contributed in fostering unity in the country. A huge country with a continuous stretch of landmass lying in the Northern Hemisphere gives it an intact structure.
b. The presence of Himalayas in the North which act as natural barriers to the extremely cold winds blowing from Central Asia and enables the entire North India to have more or less uniform temperature, they also act as a barrier to the south west monsoon in summer and precipitates heavy rain on the country bringing about unification.
c. India has chosen 82 30' as standard meridian and has taken its local time as the standard time of the country. This has enabled uniformity in the time for the entire country.
d. India's vast coast line along its boundary also adds to country's strength, establishing affinity amongst the coastal states in terms of culture, food, climate etc.
e. Many rivers and its tributaries like Ganges cut across various states in India, meeting irrigation and water needs, bringing about prosperity.
f. Monsoons in India also fosters unity, many festivals are associated with its advent, it meets agricultural needs and water needs of the people of the country and provides relief from scorching heat.
