Antony pays quite a glowing tribute to Caesar after ensuring he had won the confidence of the Roman crowd. He calls him ‘faithful’ and ‘just’. He reminded the Roman people that the main objective of Caesar’s life was welfare of Rome and his countrymen. He reminded the people that he never wanted to be the King; he recounts to them how he presented the kingly crown thrice to him on Lupercal, and how he refused to accept it.
He concludes his speech with the following words: ‘Here was a Caesar! When comes such another?’
