  2. Decline of Indian handicraft industries which led to unemployment and poverty
  3. social factors like cast system, religious faiths and belives also kept certain section of people in society in poverty
  4. High growth rate of population led to a very low per capita income in the country
  5. Huge income inequalities due to unequal distribution of land and other resources
