By removing the ( - ) symbol before x² , we can change the symbols

New polynomial :- x² - 3x - 1 = 0

a = 1 , b = - 3 , c = - 1

• D = b² - 4ac

= ( - 3 ) ² - 4 x 1 x - 1

= 9 + 4

= 13

Now

x = - b ± √ D / 2a ( D = b² - 4ac )

x = - ( - 3 ) ± √13 / 2 x 1

x = 3 ± √13 / 2

So , x = 3 + √13 / 2 or 3 - √13 / 2
