almost All the scientists say that position of hydrogen should be in 17th group
but till the position of hydrogen is not fixed
and it is placed in group 1 of periodic table
because it has a similar characteristics according to group 1 of elements example it has electronic configuration as similar to
group 1 has s-block ns¹ and valence also it is same for first group due to this characteristics it is placed in group 1 , ... if this characters were not present then it used to place in group-17
as halogen group...
