HTTP stands for Hyper text transfer protocol. HTTP is a protocol that works on WWW ( world wide web). Hyper text transfer protocol is an application layer protocol of OSI model. HTTP protocol is responsible for transferring Hypertext or hypermedia documents such as HTML ( Hypertext Markup language). HTTP was designed to communicate between web browsers and web servers. HTTP protocols maintains the like between hypertexts on the web server.

Note HTTPs means a secure connection on HTTP.
